Protecting and nurturing rare species
(Kawasaki Headquarters and Hamamatsu Plant)

With the guidance of a local university, Fujitsu General Hamamatsu Plant opened a 3,000 m2 biotope on its premises in 2014 and has been conducting conservation activities for the rare species of Tanakia lanceolata (Slender bitterling) and Pronodularia japanensis (a freshwater mussel), which are designated as Near Threatened by the Ministry of the Environment and Critically Endangered in the Shizuoka Red List.
With the guidance of an NPO, our Kawasaki Headquarters is also involved in the conservation and propagation of Calanthe discolor, a rare plant designated as Near Threatened by the Ministry of the Environment and Kanagawa Red List. In FY2020, the number of their pots were increased to ten from five.
In FY2021, 5 plants were returned to their original habitat, the Midorigaoka Cemetery valley, Kawasaki City. In FY2022, we divided the plants again from 5 to 10, returned one to Midorigaoka Cemetery, and transplanted three to Shimosakunobe Elementary School. In April 2023, one share was transferred to Takatsu High School. We will continue our conservation and propagation activities for the remaining five plants, and also hope to further expand the circle of stock sharing.
